The thinking regarding Meteor's design was to take our very successful "optimized for full range AND bi-wire" double-quad design, and add some PSS silver to the mix. The idea is to give a taste of the superb transparency of PSS at less than a full PSS price.
Comparing Meteor to Volcano is an obvious thing from a price standpoint, but a bit tricky from a performance standpoint.
Volcano uses the most advanced geometric construction we make in a speaker cable using counter spiraling positive and negative conductors. If you are running full range (vs. Bi-wire) then all PSC+ Volcano will give you a bit more of a refined sound stage. On the other hand, there will be a bit of a trade off in the sense of sweet transparency that comes by using PSS. Double Bi-Wire Volcano would be the complete solution (short of all PSS Everest) from a staging and presentation standpoint but again, lacking the last bit of transparency that PSS gives..
For single bi-wire application, Meteor offers a finely balanced compromise in that you get a true bi-wire within a single jacket as well as some of the benefit of added PSS.
Look at it this way...everything short of Double Bi-Wire all PSS Everest represents some form of compromise. The art comes from applying the right elements and making intelligent compromises to provide a speaker cable at a given price point that offers the highest performance/value ratio. We feel that Meteor, at it's price, does a superb job of "getting out of the way", which is the ultimate job of any good speaker or interconnect cable after all.
